Transition to Retirement

The transition to retirement can create many challenges. Luckily, discussing benefits with retiring service members is easy when TRDP is an option.

Benefits Advisors

Helping you help retirees

Benefit Advisors, Transition Assistance Program personnel and other installation staff who regularly come in contact with Uniformed Services retirees play an important role in informing the military community about their benefits in retirement.

TRDP Transition to FEDVIP

On December 31, 2018, the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) contract and dental benefits under the current Department of Defense program will end. However, dental coverage for military retirees and family members will be offered under the Federal Employee Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). This change, contained in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA 2017), means that your military retirees and their family members will need to select a new FEDVIP plan in the fall of this year for coverage effective January 1, 2019.

We want as many military retirees as possible to have an easy transition into the FEDVIP. In order to prevent a gap in coverage, TRDP enrollees and their family members must take action and enroll during the 2018 Federal Benefits Open Season at between November 12, 2018 and December 10, 2018. Delta Dental offers coverage in the FEDVIP as well with two coverage options available.
